This morning I found a ride to the beach of the Dead Sea. It took a little over forty minutes and the window I could see the yellow hills of the desert. And 'the driest winter in memory, without even a rainy day real Lake Tiberias and the Dead Sea has receded still dying for lack of flow from the river Jordan. This is known, but in my eyes it was difficult to distinguish between the winter dry desert and the desert dry winter. However impressive.
E' troppo difficile toglierti e quindi, One after one, we left on the bank of shame, the differences and also some clothes and we went into the mud up to his mouth and became a band of men and women in gray and muddy, hippos in the Middle East, throwing balls of mud, laughing and screaming , and statues in the sun as life is amended.
In my circle we wondered why things are so bad there, at home, when here at the Dead Sea, are so beautiful. In the end we invert the question. Because things are so beautiful when we meet it? We did not create peace, peace was already there. Even if just for one day, we stopped flooding your fears, listen to the messages that tell us to hate each other. Peace can not be created, we are ignoring every day, focusing on our fears and negative things. Anger, as the saying goes, is like being plucked to death by only a bee. The peace and quiet and there are available, we just have to learn to recognize them. I hope that in Italy you can find your peace, you may encounter, post-fascists and communists re-established Catholic and secular - perhaps the hot springs of Saturnia - to look in your eyes, listen to one another and to recognize how life is amended.
I left at 21 after a night around the campfire circle accompanied by songs in Hebrew, Arabic, English and English, Jewish and Muslim prayers, dancing, shisha and tea yet. And then, just on the road to Jerusalem, began, slowly. Tip. Top. Tip. Top.
E 'came the rain.

A night walk
Dear eucalyptus
go down these stairs every day
and do not see you ever.
Your trunk, strong and tall,
takes me with her eyes to heaven.
Ah. It 's a moment of intimacy.
The moon bathes the leaves you in its light.
absorbance and any ports to your cell.
Tell me, please:
is an appointment or have you met by any chance?
Cara palm, good evening.
You look lonely, surrounded
of concrete and asphalt.
Below ground, however, have their roots
strong as your arms,
accepted by land
games in which so many people
and flirt with other roots.
Dear driver, thanks for the concert.
The notes and the rhythm of your horn
express your heart,
a lack of words,
and frustration this morning
and decades ago.
know that now, here, the moon bathes you in the light?
Let your tires remain firm on solid ground?
And we are here, everyone, to hear the voice of your being?
Tonight
are nothing more than a meeting point between
eucalyptus, palm and the taxi driver.
And it is enough.

Throat Sore Every Menstrual
What can we do?
There are two questions that I'm getting at this time. The first is what I'm seeing first-and second person in Israel, perhaps rhetorical, is what we can do in the face of so much suffering.
I begin with the first. This time, Jerusalem is outside the conflict zone, and then the explosions and the bombs that I remember from the period of 2000-2002 are not there, and even the sirens and shelters when they fell from the missiles launched by Saddam Hussein in the first Gulf War. I must say that this week by mistake the siren sounded in Jerusalem. I was taking a cappuccino and a croissant at home, enjoying the foam with awareness, when I heard this sound which means the arrival of a rocket or a missile. I tried to stay calm, remember where the nearest shelter, take away your imagination. Obviously if I had been there during the Gulf War and if I had in mind the destruction, as I have the memory of the attacks e dei morti del '00-'02, sicuramente avrei avuto molto più difficoltà a rimanere calmo.
In my opinion, these things are not only the results of the war but also its causes. People get angry, frustrated, traumatized difficult not to perceive the world in terms of threat and defense.
This thing is the same for Arabs than for Jews. The roots of fear are recent and old. They are historical and ideological, personal and family. Israelis and Palestinians, Arabs and Jews, have this in common: they are watering the seeds of fear one another every day of their lives, at home, at work, on the street, in the market and also politically. For this reason I try not to interpret the events as a political chess game: one side does this, then the other party does that, then this is the first part ... judge or justify a "pleasure". When people feel threatened and no other side has the tools to take a breath and calmasi, comes hate, violence and war.
Maybe a little 'clearer why not ask the Italians to take part and instead of helping us to reconcile. With a soup already strasalata of fear and hatred, add more salt aggravates the animosity. I see groups of Europeans and Americans who come to support their favorite part, by strengthening the impression that the other side is a monster that will never change, then violence is justified. Both "israestinesi" that "ameuropei" come home angry and bring the war in their hearts.
Despite my love for things salty and bitter radicchio from capers through the chicory (chicory mmmm ... ), I am ready to sacrifice my taste to ask for a little 'sweetness. It 'clear that if the Israelis and the Palestinians were singing more, watch more of the blue sky, were opened up more to their loved ones about their fears, the war would do less? You can say that I'm talking about utopia, but it is more utopian than going to an event di "sostegno". Parliamo chiaramente.
Potete invitare israeliani e palestinesi in Italia for a retreat for meditation, deep listening and deep relaxation, as does Thich Nhat Hanh at his monastery Plum Village in France. You can find information on other projects such as Seeds of Peace (Seeds of Peace). Invite "palestraeliani" at town festivals, the Palio of August, the popular songs? Some speak of a "peace stimulus" for economic Gaza or the need for funding of projects of education for peace . Virtually any project where you can show to the Israelis and Palestinians, together or separately, what peace is, what sweetness, how to enjoy and to celebrate the miracle of life, how to solve conflicts, will be of great help.
Although the results are not immediate or total is much better than adding more salt. To do all this, however, ask ourselves whether we have enough depth to our peace or whether there should be more in touch with nature, with our emotions, if we have time to practice the techniques of awareness with people of experience.
finish with a quote, always the master Thich Nhat Hanh, in his book "Being Peace." I'm sorry that it is in English: if someone has it in Italian and sent me the translation gonna change willingly.
good weekend, I wish us all a few steps toward peace and joy.

Many of us worry about the situation of the world. When we do not know the bombs will explode. We feel that we are on the edge of time. As individuals, we feel helpless, despairing. The situation is so dangerous, injustice is so widespread, the danger is close. In this kind of a situation, if we panic, things will only become worse. We need to remain calm, to see clearly. Meditation is to be aware, and to try to help.
I like to use the example of a small boat crossing the Gulf of Siam. In Vietnam, there are many people, called boat people, who leave the country in small boats. Often the boats are caught in rough seas or storms, the people may panic, and boats may sink. But if even one person aboard can remain calm, lucid, knowing what to do and what not to do, he or she can help the boat survive. His or her expression - face, voice - communicates clarity and calmness, and people have trust in that person. They will listen to what he or she says. One such person can save the lives of many.
Our world is something like a small boat. Compared with the cosmos, our planet is a very small boat. We are about to panic because our situation is no better than the situation of the small boat in the sea. You know that we have more than 50,000 nuclear weapons. Humankind has become a very dangerous species. We need people who can sit still and be able to smile, who can walk peacefully. We need people like That in order to save us.

We need people like That in order to save us.
good weekend, I wish us all a few steps toward peace and joy.

Lighting Elvira
According to the Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and many others, the lighting is not limited to certain saints or extraordinary men who meditate for hours in the forest. Of course meditation is a very effective tool to calm the emotions and especially the mental habits that blind us. It 'also obvious that the contact with nature is valuable. Instead of "enlightenment" but there are so many lights, small moments of clarity when we realize what our mental habits and the impact they have on how we perceive the world and how we react to the world. With this awareness comes a transformation: subtle, natural, almost imperceptibly, but later realize that our relations are a bit 'healthier, we're a bit' less angry / sad / scared and that people who are around they perceived in some way, and strangely they are happier.

Dear Bar,Cara, thanks for your letter. You say you're scared but I see you've already found a bit 'of relief. I also see that you already managed to turn a bit 'of the "hardness of heart" that was behind the conflicts that describe, transmitted at the time by many moments of hardness in your life and the life of a neighbor. Now, instead of continuing this broadcast you're already sending something different. The peace you are already doing ... for yourself, for the people you meet today, for me and for all people that cross-site.
feel of having to thank from the bottom of my heart, for the valuable lessons and sincere, without rhetoric, I'm getting from you in recent times. I fully agree with what you say, war is primarily in our hearts, there is no reason to take the war is a condition, a mental state which, if not transformed, begets more war and more pain.
This morning I started the day at war. I argued with my mother and my daughter and I arrived in office with the heart pounding and her features altered. For me it was the right to claim my independence, respect for "my" borders. And lately I'm having problems with my neighbor, because the floor of my bathroom, that "borders" with its ceiling. Boundaries, borders always. I can not so strange when I see pictures on television of war is the same, only brought a little 'later, but made of the same nature.
This scares me. I, I thought a person on the whole quiet, calm, balanced, with your loved ones close by and in conflict. For your words this morning were like a balm on a wound. Kindness, gentleness, patience ...
Can I get a bit 'of salted capers?
I embrace with gratitude. See you soon. Elvira Elvira

Just the war in Italy
It 's a very difficult period. I see the way the world is divided in two. I see people who appear to "support" one side or another and often "support" means to dehumanize the other, either Israeli or Palestinian. In Italy I have friends who are protesting against the killing of the inhabitants of Gaza and others who defend Israel's right to defend itself, the events are separated, the positions are opposed, the animosity is growing. Strangely, only here in Israel and Palestine have friends who participate in the walk for peace where Israelis and Palestinians together to renounce violence and seek to see the humanity in each other, step by step silent silent. Only here in Israel and Palestine know Jews and Muslims - religious and lay people - who come together to assert that their religion is one of peace and coexistence. Only here in Israel and Palestine know groups of ex-soldiers and ex-militants who say "never again" to violence and bring you to listen to a the other as human beings.
not speak in the name of "Israel." They do not speak in the name of "Palestine." Do not even speak in the name of "Israel" or the "Palestinians". They talk like people - people - who no longer want to hate their brothers and sisters and know that these labels are a major factor in the conflict. And do their best despite the weather. Perhaps surprisingly, these people can teach us something about peace.
sisters and brothers in Italy, please. Stop the war in Europe! Here, in Israel and Palestine, there are people who insist that we enemies. We only teach the atrocities made by the other party and only acts of heroism made by us. We are told that armed struggle is only a reaction to the injustice of the other. I do not want to believe. I can not believe. We have enough anger and hatred. Please, with all the strength of this beating heart, with every tear up those cheeks, do not send more. Make peace. Meet , right and left, to suggest practical and creative solutions for all the people of this area are safe and free: free from war, indoctrination, by militarism. I do not know if our politicians can really influence the Israeli government to stop because the military operation. I do not know if they can really influence on Hamas to stop the missiles and rockets. I know, however, that even if they succeed, your war now will make it worse than our war of tomorrow. If you want to protest against the tragic and painful war here today, looking for a way to do it together because you will have more success this way, and every life saved is a whole world. Of course you have to listen to the other, to question the things you think are the absolute truth ... but if it will save life is not worth it?
Your faces seen on the screen of my PC, are full of pain and I'm so sorry. Know that healing is possible, some here know it. Come to me in Jerusalem, just bring the salted capers and I promise you a nice plate of spaghetti alla puttanesca with olives in the market. We go along with the Bereaved Families Forum , the "forum of bereaved relatives " composed of Palestinians and Israelis who have lost a relative in the conflict and now seek to resolve the conflict with nonviolence. Then, if you bring the flowers to fry them there before a meeting with Roman Combatants for Peace, "fighters for peace," former Israeli soldiers and ex-fighters of Palestinian resistance. With all the religions represented in Jerusalem Peacemakers, "which make the peace of Jerusalem" - a group for interfaith peace and justice - it is certain that we can celebrate some Jewish holiday, Christian or Muslim together.
do not have to go to war with you. Together, Italian, Palestinian, Israeli, we can create a beautiful future.

Love and Action
Dear Ken,
Thank you for your comments and questions very relevant. I understand you well and I identify fully with the desire to do something or say something. It 'important to be involved, the question that I propose is what is the best way to do it, both for the people that we want to help ourselves.
If we do not have a good preparation to remain calm, if we are poorly trained in understanding and compassion, it is very unlikely that we can have an impact effective despite our best intentions. E 'instead likely to come back from a rally or a speech full of anger and hatred, which then pass on to those closest and dearest to us. Dear Ken, I would not like that, trying to bring peace to the Middle East, you end up taking the war from the Middle East to your home.
If instead, we are committed to create a circle of relatives or friends where there is a good practice of deep listening and speaking lovingly, if we have first-hand experience of how to turn off the fire of anger and transforms the suffering, then I think we have much to offer people who suffer, both in Israel and Palestine to work and family in Italy o altrove.

A word
Dear God, I know that
normally prefer that letters be written to request a representative to be your Santa Claus, Jesus Christ or the Wailing Wall. But I would like to send this appeal directly to you, here on the blog because I know that at least you read it.
Dear God, I need a word
.
It 's almost a century-that here there is a vicious circle of hatred, fear and violence. The roots come from farther away: on an ideological level the idea of self-determination, a European invention that, looking back to the revolution and wars of succession and ethnic cleansing, was not that great, at the psychological level ' inability to listen or try to understand the other, you can take a breath and step back in the face of anger, this feature is common to all members of the human species and the reason for its existence only you'll know.
But it is a circle, the more one tries to dehumanize and blame one side or another, the more one tries to simplify the story in black and white, the most vicious, violence and tragedy stronger. I look at the progress of South Africa, Ireland and the United States and I wonder why it does not happen here. There at least the idea of a nation could serve as a common point, a way to overcome the differences and see that we are at the end only one thing. But the idea here national divides us. While both a white and black can be a South African, here an Israeli is an Israeli and a Palestinian is a Palestinian.
I'm not making any call for one state, but I believe that this will bring us only more conflict and confusion. But there must be some word that may include both Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians. Something that says, "we, the people here in the Land of Israel (or Palestine, also lack a common name for the territory)." Instead, whenever we talk of peace between two separate things, and unfortunately the illusion that we are separate is one of the factors that we believe will lead us to hurt each other more well-being or safety. Even with two states, even with two languages, even with three, four, five different religions, in fact, precisely because there is all this wonderful diversity, we need at least a word that reminds us of our interest. So we can say, "we, the israestinesi, make peace between us all. Choose us, israestinesi to live in harmony and respect between individuals and among nations. We, the israestinesi, we overcame the difficulties and fears that we had built together, and together we managed to create a new reality. "
I'm sorry but "israestinesi" is just as ugly word and it is not as effective in giving a sense of unity. You have created and shaped in così tante cose di una bellezza straordinaria. Che ce dai 'na parola in più?

Does Pinky Have An Std
The cause of the war and the
And 'Hamas, which ...?
The cause of the war depends on who speaks, its history, its identity and its culture. We can learn a lot about who speaks through because it attaches to the war. But we can understand the real cause of war? It 's fascinating, sad but fascinating, that the political experts and journalists can not offer more than a debate about which event was the real the war.
I recently heard a debate, but not in the courtroom on the street. One told of the experience of "Kfar aza, a farming town of 600 people near the Israeli Gaza Strip, which for the past eight years has been the victim of continuous rocket attacks. None was killed, he says, but does not mean that nobody was hurt. The children all suffer symptoms of trauma, bed wetting, high anxiety, crying. We can imagine the growth of a child like that, eight years living in a war situation?
The other part of the debate compared the situation of that child to another situation in Gaza, where it undergoes not only military but also the terror of poverty and the death of his family. As a child grows up like that?
I think we can all imagine how will these children grow up. According to you, can make peace? It seems trivial but it is important to say: the cause of war is the war . Both the Israelis that the Palestinians have suffered terror. are terrified. A stable person who feels confident, with a healthy social relations, will follow a policy of siege on an already poor population, or vote and support those who do? No. A person terrified? Yes, A person with a quiet heart and peace, which has tools to handle life's difficulties children and sends girls to jump in area to kill innocent civilians? No. A person terrified? Yes
E 'is also fascinating, sad but fascinating, that a person terrified, traumatized, unable to take responsibility for their actions and instead believed to be only "reacting" to the action of the other. They are blind to the fact that their "reaction" becomes the proximate cause of the "action" of the other.
in Italy We're not launching rockets or teams of aircraft (exporting mines and gun though). We thank God that childhood for most of us have been in better condition, that we are able to sleep peacefully and without nightmares, we can more or less to have healthy relationships, we are not overwhelmed by hatred. This is the only reason why there are now behaving exactly like Israel and Hamas. Another thing sadly fascinating? That despite this, every time we take one side or another of the war we are strengthening the terror and trauma of both the parti.
Il modo più urgent is to try not to aggravate the situation, of not encouraging the cycle of violence. It 'hard, I know, be silent when we are taken by anger, choose not to turn the blame mail, listen to the pain of no one with whom identifichiamoci dehumanize his opponent.
E 'is difficult but possible. And what a fascinating, beautiful and fascinating, which is already silenced and not incite, give a moment of silence, helps us to be our part. Even if its just for a moment, the absence of tension, hate and fear can be a great gift. They are in such need and we too often.
More fascinating yet, banal, beautiful and fascinating, is that if the cause of war is war and the cause of hatred is hatred, the cause of peace is the cause of peace and love is love . If we want to see peace in the Middle East must be good at also lead to Rome, Naples and Milan. Part of the peace is the ability to see the finer things in life that are otherwise taken for granted. Okay complain about Berlusconi, both of us right and left of us, but also take a moment to feel gratitude for the good things of Italy. The music, architecture, traditions and innovations, time, lack of wars and bombs, the kiss twice - especially the kiss twice, the phrase "hello beautiful" that puts us now in a good mood. The more we are good at seeing the beauty the more we are able to transmit it to our friends in Israel and Palestine. More will see the beautiful - albeit in difficult conditions - will feel less anxiety, anger and fear, and less then the actions that will bring greater suffering.
I also mentioned the love. Why in the policy analysis can not love but hate to write? It 's fascinating, beautiful and fascinating, rarely mentioned that this emotion can be so useful. The love, understanding and compassion: of course not we read about in the Middle East because it is little. If we want to see the love in Israel and Palestine, we must strengthen its cause, which is also love.
We should now try to feel love for our enemy, it would be like running a marathon without training. We begin to hear it first to ourselves - there is more room for improvement than we think - then with our friends, relatives, neighbors, and strangers, then the "small enemies" to work and sometimes even family. With practice and training is possible. Sure it takes a lot of patience: Ehud Barak has prepared for six months for the attack on Gaza. Can we invest six months to improve our personal relationships and strengthen our love? If not, forget any hope that Israelis and Palestinians make it. If so, they feel the effects.
E 'possible. And the most fascinating, the most funny, beautiful, happy and charming, is that not to exacerbate the situation, strengthen the peace and develop love for each other we improve our quality of life here and now, and at the same time be the cause of silence, peace and love in the Middle East in the near future.
Mo silent, I feel gratitude because I do not no rocket is falling and no bomb, and I love you all.
